Learner Development

Leslie Walker – Secondary English

A teacher discovers how the individual learner paces themselves through different areas of growth and conducts exercises to expand and engage the child.

The importance of learner development is that the teacher and the student create a bond. Once this bond is created, both parties are able to successfully work together. They become aware of when there is a struggle or feel so much joy when the student strives.

Artifacts:
1.) For the first three days of class, I will reach out to the students via quizzes to see how they would respond to certain questions, understanding their interest, and seeing the best way they gather the information. I will then create a visual diagram of their growth. Throughout the year, I will give them the same quizzes to see if their answers differ.  By seeing this physical chart of their growth, it allows them to see how they are improving.

This is an example of the visual I would make for my class. Each student would make their own person to place on this chart. (received from https://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-photography-business-man-climbs-up-growth-pie-chart-stairs-image14457687)

2.) Group peer review will help the student break through some of the boundaries they are faced. By breaking down into small groups (staying in those for the entire class) and reevaluating each others work allows the student to see how their work appears in someone else’s eyes. They then can go back to their work and take the corrections/improvements or look at the questions. This skill will help the student develop the 4 C’s.

3.) I will do weekly check-in’s with the students via note cards because as a teacher, we do not truly know what happens when they leave the classroom. With these check-ins, I will understand how the student emotionally, physically, and mentally develop with the content in the classroom.

I would use this as a guideline for my students to tell me what they are feeling for that week. (received from https://www.pinterest.com/pin/544935623645901323/)
